Essay on Teej festival

Teej is one of the biggest and most famous festival of women celebrated all over the Hindus countries. In Nepal it is celebrated all across the

country. Teej festival falls mostly during late monsoon, in the month of Bhadra. We know that Teej is a 3 days long festival.

1. Dar khana din - Feast day
2. Barta basna din - Fasting day
3. Rishi panchami



According to the legends, Teej is the reunion day of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. Teej is a festival celebrated by gathering together,making and eating delicious feast, having fun while singing and dancing and a strong dedication. 


On the first day of teej also known as "Dar khana din" all women gather together and prepare delicious feast and on the evening they enjoy the delicious food item referred as "dar". 

Dar is the food women are supposed to have the day before fasting. Moreover, they celebrate and have fun singing teej songs and dancing while forgetting all their sorrows and enjoying the moment freely and happily.



On the second day "Barta basna din" Women wake up early in the morning bath,wear red sari as a symbol of love, wear mehandi and of different designs on their hand with ornaments and go to the Shiva temple. There both married and unmarried women fast for the whole day. 

Married women fast without eating or drinking throughout the whole day for long and good healthy life of their husbands. while unmarried women fast eating some fruits for good and suitable husbands. Some time fasting whole day without eating or drinking may be harmful and there are some cases of women's fainting also


Later on the night after puja, they keep the oil lamp burning all nights which is believed to bring peace and prosperity in their family.

    The third day is known as Guru Panchami. On this day women worship 7 rishis , offer their payers and clean themselves from evil deeds.



Lastly, The main focus of this festival is to pray for their husband long, healthy and prosperous life. It also help in making strong bonds among women and help women to be free and enjoy the time with her family and friends. Thus teej is a very important festival to all women's.
